Drowning in Picturesque
Sep. 8th, 2009 12:39 amForget what work was like last week. Can't have been that important. The weekend (Friday Morning-Monday afternoon) was my sister's wedding, in rural VT near Burlington. I'm just not a country mouse. Yes, yes, it was very green and pretty, and there was a pond for the niece and nephew to hunt frogs in, and a little backwater stream for a swimming hole, miles away from anywhere. (Most directions started with "drive to that one corner with a stop light, and then go ..."). And I'd much rather have been in a city with a theater and internet and gamers. But they like outdoorsy stuff, and it's near where he grew up. A bunch (6) of Dad's friends and relatives from Australia showed up, so there were some people I knew, and it was a good ceremony and reception. So I enjoyed the parts I liked, and put up with the parts I wasn't so fond of, and occasionally texted
ironrat when the lack-of-urban-ness got too strong.
Other stuff:
Monday: Dinner with parents and some of dad's friends at Redbones. Also lunch with them.
Tuesday: Auria. Continuing with mad marriage plans, we went up to Nordland, and discovered that our NPC has a terrifying backstab for killing trolls with.
Wednesday: Hmm. Lunch with a different set of dad's friends, dinner with Germany, after which I followed him to 4 WAR for a while and hung out while they set up for Hall Rush, and then left once the frosh started actually arriving. It was nice to feel like they're still happy to have me drop by even though Germany's graduated, though (while I know most of the juniors and some of the sophmores, I don't know any of them nearly as well as Germany).
Thursday: Lunch with
mister_nick, and dinner with dad's friends from yesterday, at some random restaurant in Chinatown.
Friday: Driving up to VT, the rehearsal, and the rehearsal dinner. Spent much of dinner chatting with bro-in-law's high school friend who is studying to be a lawyer in NYC, before getting people'd out and retreating to reading a book.
Saturday: The actual ceremony! Woo! They're married! I should remember to find a copy of the book Dad did a reading from. The reception was at the same place we were staying at, so I could retreat to my room when necessary. More chatting with the proto-lawyer, and with the gay guests. Stayed up too late at the bonfire, but it was fun.
Sunday: Morning after breakfast for the people staying at our B&B, and the people camping in the field where the bonfire had been. Said goodbye to the people I'd been chatting with, claiming we'll look each other up if we're ever in the same city again, which I'm sure will go ignored. Swimming hole in the afternoon, followed by dinner with Dad and the Australians at a surprisingly good restaurant.
Monday: Cleaning up the B&B, opening the gifts, last goodbyes. Back in Boston, dinner with
treiza and people, and puttering online, mostly.
Still owe y'all a review of recent reading, perhaps
skuffle will manage to remind me once Rush is over.
