Relaxing week, so why am I still tired...
Aug. 14th, 2006 12:01 am[Edited to add stuff I forgot]
Short week at work this week, as we took off the last two days for our annual retreat to Newport. The stuff before that was moderately productive, although I got told off for spending too much time on IM. The boss was wrong about the immediate thing that triggered the telling off, which was in fine shape, but the underlying critique may be accurate. Sigh.
In other news:
Monday: worked late, maybe? I think so, anyway, and can't remember anything else I did.
Tuesday: Dinner with Germany at Cuchi Cuchi. He liked the french bread/toast, which is the secret reason for eating there, as well as most of the other stuff, like the brie-stuffed toast. Then Tarkanan: Raiding a bunch of goodie-two-shoes paladins in their secret military encampment. We did them some damage, and stole the cool toys we were going there to steal, but they scared us off before we did as much damage as I'd wanted to. Coordinated mages are really the thing that hoses us down. Need to come up with a way to deal with that.
Wednesday: Centauri meeting. Which needs a better name. Tackled mechanics, and have a decent feel for how several of them work, I think. Fairly productive, although I feel like we're still underplotted. But maybe that's ok, since my last several games have been terribly overplotted.
Thursday: In Newport. It was a nice trip, although I didn't spend as much time in the pool as I should have. I did read a lot, finishing Expanded Universe and the first two Dark is Rising books. We also toured one of the mansions - as a house, it wasn't actually that much better than the place we stayed, and probably worse. But the stuff in it, wow. It'd be kind of cool to wake up in the morning and have a Renoir hanging in your bedroom. (The woman who lived there died in 1992 with an estate of approximately 2 Billion dollars - having given a billion away while she was alive.)
Friday: Conflux Run. Mostly a big fight with the Astronomer. We hate him. But he must hate us, too. "I ripped your kidney bleeding from your body! *WHY ARE YOU STILL STANDING!*" He eventually fled, and we stopped the ritual *again*, but we need to figure out a way past all his "can't detect me" stuff to actually go proactive on him.
Saturday: Puttered around a bunch doing little errands and going to work. Went to the Gas Man's birthday party, where I ran into a couple of people I knew vaguely, but neither 'nJ nor the MBA were there. It would be nice to see the Gas Man and his boy (and his ex-boy) more often, but oh well.
Sunday: More puttering. I caught up on a bunch of writing that I needed to do, and played a lot of starcraft, and a couple of other games. I still have more writing that I need to do, but it may have to wait. Sigh.
Now is the time for deciding whether I do one more writing thing, or just go to bed now and try not to be so tired tomorrow... Hmm. [Surprising noone, I wrote more stuff.]
Review Expanded Universe: This is a mixture of Heinlein short stories and non-fiction pieces. I still quite like it, despite not having read it in a decade or so. I am more conscious now of the ways in which I disagree with Heinlein, and while I can still respect his world-view, I am more clear that it is not mine. I think they can be summarized by saying that he believes that the frontier is the right (possibly the only) place to live, and I don't. Lives 9.5 days of game before being blown up in WW3.
