Back in Boston!
Jul. 26th, 2010 12:42 amCalifornia was sunny. So was Austin. Boston is just hot.
Tuesday: Mostly hanging around during the day, I think. Evening spent with Germanychen on dinner at a fancy steak place and then Young Frankenstein. Show is bouncy and fun, but not really *good*. Songs are forgettable, jokes are well delivered but old, characters are farcical goofs. I enjoyed it at the time, but can't really recommended it highly to others. Call it 7.5 days of game before getting killed by a rampaging mob.
Wednesday: Babysat nephew for a while in the morning, then Great America (an amusement park) with
bakedweasels and the kids. Ran into Mrs. Countertorque and their eldest while there, too. I fear I am getting too old for Amusement parks. I am grumpy and creaky when I get jerked around turning corners on a roller coaster, instead of bouncy and excited. The water park part was still fun, though. In the evening, went up to
algorithmancy's place to play games with him and bakedweasels, and
treiza made a special guest appearance.
Thursday: Went into town in the afternoon to see
thatwesguy, then out with parents and niece and nephew in the evening for parent's wedding anniversary.
Friday: Don't think I did anything particular in CA, then flew to TX.
Austin: Hanging out with College-Roommate and his family was pretty cool. I had only met his wife a couple of times for a couple of hours, and don't think I'd ever met the kids, so crashing at their place for a couple days was nice. Harwin's wedding was kind of odd, in that I was the only one there from Boston. I mostly just watched everything, without talking to anyone much (except him, as he made a point to come over a couple of times and see how I was doing, and offer to introduce me around/etc.). I often do that at parties by choice, but doing it not-by-choice was weirder, somehow. I'm glad I went, but it left me kinda... wistful? nostalgic? something.
