Brain Broken, please try again
Mar. 16th, 2009 12:12 amSo I was totally useless at work at the beginning of the week. This was not just that I had no deadlines, I think, because I was also unable to get a sudoku right or do the crossword. It got better by the end of the week, but it was really annoying while it was happening. And I was in both days this weekend to try to make up, and did some, but not enough.
Other stuff:
Monday: Rudy's, for Guy's night out.
Tuesday: Auria, then VBL.
Wednesday: Watchmen, with
skuffle and, uhm, Meti. I liked it, although I wasn't totally blown away. It was a little more graphically violent than I expected, but it's by the guy who directed 300, so I guess that makes sense. I liked the changed ending, and thought it actually made more sense than the book. I was happier with Laurie than most of the reviews seem to be - she didn't nail the bits when she's supposed to be really upset, but she was fine in general. I wasn't so happy with Adrian, I thought he was just the wrong physical type, especially given how true to the artwork the rest of the movie was. I really liked Dr. Manhattan, and thought he nailed the "slowly becoming non-human" thing well. Lives 8.5 days of game, before dying in a nuclear Armageddon.
Thursday: Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, with
brilit and
firstfrost. I had never seen the show before, and found it an oddly constructed piece, although several of the songs were good. It did not go where I expected at all. I really liked the actress playing the Madam, and several other of the characters were well done. The band was a little too loud relative to the singing, although that might partially have been where we were sitting. All in all, worth going to, but not worth pushing on other people (which is good, 'cause it closed today). Lives 7.5 days of game before game is Closed By The CPs.
Friday: Let the Right One In, at LSC with Talos' et al. It had really good reviews and people praising it as Best Foreign Picture of the Year and stuff, but I wasn't quite that impressed. It's definitely solidly done, and less of a horror movie than I was expecting - several people get killed, some of them surprisingly and/or gorily, mostly by or for a vampire, but it wasn't all that suspenseful - but I wasn't that fond of the main character, so I never really got into it. Lives 8 days of game before getting killed by a vamp. Afterwards, went to Mardi Gras on 5E, which was... eventful... and involved retardedness and freshman. (The freshman was unrelated to the retardedness.)
Saturday: Slept late, then work, then dinner with
maverickseraph, involving much delays and wandering around looking for a restaurant until we wound up at Crossroads, which is much yuppier than I remembered it. Then to Senior Haus, theoretically for Deli Haus but I mostly hung out on 4th WAR and read Sandman.
Sunday: Also slept late, then errands, then work. And now, I'm up late, and should go to bed, 'cause I have to get up early to go to middle-of-nowhere Court in the morning.
