Home Again!
Sep. 4th, 2007 12:01 amBack from vacation. We'll see if it's left me refreshed and rested, and ready to Get Things Done, or if I continue to be Lame. Hopefully the former.
Let's see: Avenue Q was good Thursday. Mom and Dad and my Aunt and Uncle really liked it. I thought it was about as good as the Broadway version, although I was somewhat more aware of the puppeteers, where on Broadway they faded more into the background. Worth seeing, but it does leave me wondering how it's going to do on the college/local theater circuit, once it closes in the big theaters. Before the show, we went to a really nice restaurant (One Market? Something like that) with the nicest Filet Mignon I've had in ages.
Friday, had lunch with
countertorque and then dinner with relatives and Blackfire's family, after which
bakedweasels, Blackfire,
algorithmancy and I played games for a while. Mostly bakedweasels game he's writing, which is pretty good, but not to my taste, as it's too many stacked rock-paper-scissors games without sufficient information about them. Also tried Notre Dame, which was fun but way faster than I expected it to be. You get 18 actions (27, if you count buying a guy), and then you're done, so deciding to spend several setting up defenses at the beginning was probably a waste of time.
Saturday was the Football game, which I already posted about. Then went out to dinner with the nephew and niece, who were much better behaved than they had been the night before, possibly because the dinner was later and they were way sleepy. (In general, they were both more trouble than they've been in the past, but hopefully they'll grow out of it soon.)
Sunday was a BBQ at countertorque's. A couple of hours of just a few people hanging around, then the Hordes of Family descended. (Bakedweasels and his family, our parents and aunt and uncle, algorithmancy and his folks and
treiza, and Young-Grey-Hair's wife and kids all showed up between 4-5, I think.) It was a good BBQ, and then they all retreated again and left a few of us to play board games. Tried Space Dealer, which is a 30 minute timed game where all the actions are done by putting an egg timer on them and the action finishes when the egg timer runs out, which was ok, but one of my timers was busted, which made it sad. I'd try it again with working timers, probably. Also tried Great Wall of China, which was fun and I should see if I can get a copy of it, and then played Tigris and Euphrates.
Today, stopped by Bakedweasel's briefly to say goodbye, then grabbed lunch, then flew home. And now, perhaps I should try to go to bed, so I can get up in time for work tomorrow.
