Weekend in DC
Jun. 12th, 2005 11:47 pmWent down Friday. There was a stunning Irish guy sitting next to me on the flight down, but he was going down for a prize-fight, not Pride. He was on the flight back up and said hello, though, which was funny. Starting to actually understand the route to the Staffer's place from the airport. Still couldn't actually do it, but I know where the Taxi's will head to, and how to get them there from the point they don't know where they are anymore.
Saturday was nostalgia day. Slept in a bit, then went to Bethesda to have lunch with the Staffer,
gotspit, and
ironrat. It was a yummy lunch, and I went by Big Planet (my high school comic book store) beforehand and talked to the owner for a bit. Sadly, he lied to me and told me that the other owner (my only high school friend who's still in the DC area) was in NYC, and wouldn't be back until Sunday. When I actually called him on Sunday, he hadn't gone to NYC after all, but was busy on Sunday. Sigh. Should get back down to see him sometime soonish.
After lunch, drove by my old house and my junior high school, and then went to the Zoo with
ironrat to check and see if my mosaic is still up in the elephant house. It is. The rest of the Zoo is much the same, and I got somewhat too much sun, such that my arms are now red. But I don't think they'll actually peel, fingers crossed.
Then to the Professor and the Doctor's house, to hang out for a bit before the Parade, which is at 6:30 in the evening in DC for some unknown reason. Parade was fine, but less eye candy than would have been nice. It also had, in the Professor's words "More drag queens and fewer High Schools" than Boston Pride. Dunno why. Afterwards, went to a BBQ at some friend of theirs place, which was ok, but I don't do well at party's where I don't know people. Everyone was nice (the host was actually really good at making sure people were being looked after), but I mostly talked a lot to one guy I'd met before. Then back to the Staffer's to crash. (Apparently walking by the bar which the Instrumentologist was in, which was funny, since I knew it was one he hangs out in a lot, and nearly stopped in to see if he was there. But I didn't get home until nearly midnight as it was, so it's probably just as well.)
Today, woke up slightly earlier, went and got breakfast/brunch with Staffer, then the two of us went over to help the Instrumentologist's girlfriend move into his place. He offered lunch after, but we had to run off to meet Professor and Doctor at the Smithsonian, where we were going to do the Toulouse-Lautrec Exhibit. They were late, so we did wander through the Pride Festival for half an hour or so (it was on Pennsylvannia right next to the museum), and ran into someone we both knew from college and someone the Staffer knew from the Hill, as well as finding me some rainbow triangle lapel pins I wanted. (But no standard pink triangle. They seem to have gone out of fashion. :-(
The exhibit was cool, although it was partly a general Montmarte exhibit, and I liked several of the other artists better, I think. Might just be that there was less of them so they had more important pieces selected, though, 'cause there certainly were cool Toulouse-Lautrec pictures, there were just also several I was less impressed with. (In particular, his colors in his oils seemed washed out to me, a lot of the time.) Bummed around the museum a bit more before heading out to the airport. Flew home.
Other things from earlier in the week:
Big Plot Run in Tarkanan, as the bad guys find out we have lost heirs on our side. Wednesday was a comet run, the mechanic worked better than the one for the previous run, but was too easy, and the run ended early. Thursday my massage subject cancelled on me, but he came up with a rescheduling time, and I actually was kinda happy to have the night off to pack and stuff.
Have lost some of my subjects again, that happens when I do summary updates.
