Got up early-for-a-saturday to get ready to go meet one of the BU Law first years that I'm supposed to be mentoring through the gay bar association. Guy turns out to need no mentoring at all, as far as I can tell. He's only been in Boston for three weeks, and he's organizing BU law students into trips to fancy restaurants, volunteering to fix the gay bar association's web site, and doing well (he thinks) in his classes. I'll try to come up with something useful to do for him, but heck if I know right now what it'll be.
After that was the run, which was fun. After much terror at the thwacking we were going to get for kidnapping the Hegemon, it turned out to be resolved fairly simply by waking her up, explaining what happened to her, and having her go tell the police "It's ok, I wasn't really kidnapped." We then segued into plots-of-goofiness, dealing with the tabloid reporter keeping an eye on us (which we mostly dealt with by telling him zillions of lies, so that the story will be completely untrue, as opposed to being full of whatever rumors he can piece together about the stuff we don't want people to know about), and then I got mind controled into a group mind, and got to go around being dumb ("I feel like Tandori chicken" "Hey, so do we!" "Ok, that'll be 70 orders of Tandori chicken.") for half the run while they tried to fix me. Once they actually recruited me to help, I even managed to mostly fix it, although the *other* group mind got away, 'cause we forgot that it had formed in the same accident. Nice light entertainment, marred only by eating way too many of the Krispy Kremes that Sharra brought. (I think I'm getting more sensitive to sugar again... I can definitely feel the crashes harder than I have in years. :-( )
After run dinner happened, and was far too crowded for the table we were at.
Then went to first party. It was pleasant enough, in that I saw a large number of kinda-friends that I hadn't seen in ages, and caught up with most of them. I was even pleasantly surpised that Thomas remembered my name, and chatted for 15 minutes or so about what he's been doing in New York. I could have sworn that he'd decided he didn't like me for some reason, but I guess not. It was the first time in ages I've gone to one of those parties and not walked 'nJ home afterwards, though. Kinda sad about that. And I didn't figure out if I'm going to the Dalai Lama in NYC with him next weekend, which I totally need to nail down soon, so I can decide if I can app. for the Sunday night run of Impunity or not.
Swung by 5E party for a bit, and saw a few people, but was mostly partied out by then, and didn't stay long. Went to wait for the Night Owl to catch it home (for maybe the second time ever), but Quillion walked past and tried to beat me about the head and shoulders with his blue-foam-thingie, so I tricked him and the people he was with into walking me as far as Inman, and then walked the rest of the way home myself. Had a good conversation on the walk, and it succeeded in recharging many of the personal-energy-level batteries I'd spent at the parties, so that was welcome.
Failed to get catinhat on the phone when I got home, but it was already midnight his time, so maybe he was asleep already. Wrote this instead, but should still try and talk to him sometimes soon. For now, to bed.
