May. 25th, 2003

Long Day. I was up until about 3 last night, working on the ceremony and watching people sew the last bits of their clothes. (Quotes from that might show up in a later entry, since Schteiffun was quite funny.) Got up at 7, to be ready to leave at 8. Said hi to most of the females in the wedding party, who were in the kitchen getting their hair and makeup done. Went to wedding.

The rain held off, so we got to do everything outdoors, and it mostly worked. Only one minor catastrophe, which was the wind blowing out the candles all the time, so they couldn't really get the whole unity candle thing to work right. But people mostly liked it. Got lots of compliments on the ritual. I was a little disconcerted to be conducting a highly-non-religious wedding with a catholic priest (in full regalia) in the audience, but he didn't say anything. And his present is currently in my room, not-being-given-to-the-couple-yet, because he hasn't finished all the riddle path clues to lead them to the rest of the present, so he can't have been too offended by my presumption.

The reception was great, since I knew nearly everyone. Got lots of comments on the lavender tux, split about 50/50. (Everyone liked the vest... the jacket and the white shoes were more disliked than not, but some people thought they were really cool.) Sadly, the Bomber wasn't there (he'd been invited to another wedding this weekend before theirs), so I still haven't ever gotten all three of the J's in one place. (Note: munch != any of the J's in this instance. :-) I did get a picture of 'nJ and catinhat together, though. I was really tired by the end, about 3, and took a nap when we got home afterwards.

Then went to the shivaree. (Basically, a second party with people not in fancy clothes.) Amusing points included being back in Burton-Connor for probably the first time since the Bomber graduated, winning the Family Business game (Sammy Purple hit's Capone for the win!), and the live floor show. Jan, Tom, Andrea, and Marleigh did a scene from the mikado, a song, and a skit about monkeys at typewriters that I have to find a citation for for those of you who liked the recent monkeys at typewriters news reports. Eon and Pier explained the trees from the enchanted forest song, and then got everyone to sing it, and Derrick hosted a round of "The Newlywed Game". The couple that was only engaged, not married yet, did the best. And Drew had the terribly wrong "Disney DDR Disc", which was just *wrong*. ("It's about a 9.2 out of 10 on the wrongness scale." "What's a 10?" "I've never seen a 10.")

Now I'm tired, and trying to decide if I should watch the Buffy finale before bed, or just crash.

And for those who are interested, the text of the ceremony (my part). )
