(Special) Election Day Tomorrow!

If you live in Somerville or Medford, and voted for someone in the special Senate Election primary last month (or should have, but were too lame to make it to the polls), the actual election is tomorrow, and you should remember to vote!

So what's up with the divestment thing? I see the picketers, and I read the Al Jazeera article, but that wasn't very coherent.

(Hmm. Okay, even the somervilledivestment web site is a little crazy. I can understand "Israel is the only foreign country Somerville invests in" being weird, but "Somerville invests in Caterpillar Tractors, which Israel uses to bulldoze Palestinians" seems a little far afield).

Divestment is an excellent example of an action that reinforces Smug Moral Superiority without actually affecting the world one tiny bit. Buying Caterpillar stock doesn't fund tractors, it funds some guy who sold you the stock.
